Riverside Downs Allan Hancock, 10-4, in Late Friday Action
RIVERSIDE -- In the second game of a day-night double header against a different opponent, the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's softball team posted a 10-4 non-conference home win over the Allan Hancock College (AHC) Bulldogs Friday evening (Mar. 11) at Brown Field (Evans Sports Complex).
Earlier in the day, RCC endured a 3:05 rain delay and emerged with a six-inning (mercy rule) 9-1 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) win over the visiting Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates Friday afternoon.
Riverside City (10-8 overall) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore DP Hunter LaCroix (Norco / Norco HS '14) -- No. 10, who is pictured -- stroked a two-run single and then scored on an error. LaCroix went two for three with two runs scored and three RBI.
In the third, frosh SS Danielle Lopez (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) socked a solo home run to right-center field for a 4-1 RCC lead. It was Lopez' second round tripper of the day and fifth of the season. Lopez went two for four with three runs scored and two RBI.
In the sixth, frosh 3B Jenna Shay (Riverside / M.L. King HS '15) singled home two runs to highlight a four-run uprising for RCC.
For Allan Hancock (9-7-1 overall), sophomore CF Judith Salazar (Santa Maria / Righetti HS) went one for one with one run scored and two RBI.
RCC frosh strating RHP Laura Mendez (Carter HS '15) went the first 5-2/3 innings and allowed three runs (earned) on two hits, but walked 11 to improve to 5-4. Mendez' counterpart for AHC, frosh starting RHP Shannon Peterson (Santa Clara / Santa Clara HS) went the distance and allowed ten runs (four earned) on ten hits and four walks as her record fell to 7-4.
AHC returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 12, when it visits Mt. San Antonio College in a non-conference game.
RCC will be idle until Wednesday, Mar. 16, when it visits the Saddleback College Gauchos in a OEC game at 3 p.m.
