Tigers Win Battle Over Ranked Foe

Riverside City College picked up a solid win over a tough NCAA Division III opponent, defeating Gustavus Adolphus – which ranks 12th in DIII – 7-2 Monday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 14-2 on the year with their sixth-straight win, while the Gusties drop to 11-7 overall.

It was a battle throughout the whole day, but Riverside grabbed some momentum after Emilio Real and Matias Almeida-Ponce won the number one doubles match to a tiebreaker, 9-8 (14), and Austin Harvill and Raphael Delente dominated in the third doubles position (8-3).

The Tigers then won five of the six singles matches, battling out three-set wins in all five matches. Michael Chang fought hard at the number two singles to get the win and help secure the team victory.

Riverside looks to carry momentum into its matchup with Orange Empire Conference rival Irvine Valley College on Tuesday, with first serve set for 2 p.m.
