Men’s Track & Field Defeats Division I Competitors at RCC Invitational

It is the most premiere invitational of the year as the Riverside City College men's track and field team hosted a number of Division I schools that featured UC Riverside, CSU Fullerton, Cal Baptist, CSU San Marcos, CSU San Bernardino and Arizona Christian on Friday night. The Tigers hauled in 12 first-place finishes and 19 top three marks leading to a commanding victory.

Riverside conquered some of the highest level competitors in the regional area and beyond by amassing 255.5 points. CSU Fullerton placed second overall (131.5), backed by CSU San Marcos who landed in third place (99.5).

The Tigers featured depth in all areas to prove to be a weapon of mass destruction. Freshman Donal Aluesi swept the throws competition as he placed first in the Hammer (144' 9"), Shot Put (50' 5 ½") and Discus (155' 10"). It is his third-consecutive meet where he has landed atop the field in all three categories.

DeQuan Gillenbeau rounded out the throws by placing second in the Javelin (135' 7"). He also fared well in the Long Jump by placing second overall (21' 6 ¾"). His teammate Brandon Benson placed first in the Long Jump (21' 10 ¼") while also placing third in the Triple Jump (44' 4 ¼"). Darius Hill rounded out the jumps as he placed second in the High Jump (6' 6 ¾").

Riverside swept the podium in the 400 M with Xavier Montgomery placing first overall (51.34), backed by Luke Gleason narrowly in second place (51.35). David Olujoku rounded out the finishers with a photo-finish third place showing (51.72).

Matthew Siggins had a strong day on the track as he earned the silver medal in the 100 M Hurdles (15.03) and the bronze in the 400 M Hurdles (56.90). Hayden Palma bested him in the 400 M Hurdles with a second-place finish (56.71), while Joshua Hornsby placed first overall in the 100 M Hurdles (14.28).

Kyle Reden snapped the tape in the 800 M (1:56.24), while Raen Reyes cruised to a first lace finish in the 3000 M Steeplechase (9:45.38).

Riverside saw success in their relay teams with a first place finsih in the 400 M Relay (42.27) comprised of Lovewyn Don-Willies, Novye James, Lorenzo Boyd and Guillebeau. The wrapped up the night with a second place finish in the 1600 M Relay (3:23.05) with a team featuring Montgomery, Gleason, Reden and Siggins.
