More Tigers Set to Continue Careers
More Riverside City College football players are headed to four-year colleges to continue their playing and academic careers after helping the Tigers win their second 3C2A Championship in four seasons last fall.
Jordan Barton and Matthew Eskridge join the roster at Sacramento State, Kajiya Hollawayne heads to Temple University, and Nathaniel Wallace-Dilling will look to make an impact at UConn. Gabe Panikowski takes his kicking skills to Idaho State, while Donte Bowers is headed to Morehouse College and Peni Masiva joins the roster at Northeastern State. Norion Espadron joins his brother at Roosevelt University, Xavier Ugorji heads to Benedictine College, while Javier Sandoval stays local at Redlands University. Markee Moorer joins fellow Tiger Jason Mitchell Jr. at Graceland University.
After leading the Tigers to their fourth-straight championship game, Barton was named the State Offensive Player of the Year, Region III Offensive Player of the Year, and National Division, Southern League Offensive Player of the Year. The quarterback finished the year with the most touchdowns in the state with 35 passing touchdowns. Barton also boasted the best passing completion percentage (72.2 percent) after leading the 3C2A with 280 total completions on 388 attempts.
Eskridge finished the year with 44 total tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and four sacks, as a linebacker for RCC. He also had one breakup on the year.
Hollawayne finished the year with 22 receptions for 425 yards, averaging 35.4 yards per game. The wide receiver scored three touchdowns on the year, including one for 74 yards, and had six kick returns, averaging 19.3 yards per return.
Wallace-Dilling earned All-National Division, Southern League honors after finishing the year with 41 punts for 1644 total yards, averaging 40.1 yards per punt. His longest punt was 59 yards and he had 15 land inside his opponent's 20-yard line.
Panikowski went 15-for-21 on field goal attempts, including his longest field goal of 44 yards. He also scored the game-winning field goal to lift the Tigers in the 3C2A State Championship. The kicker scored 67 point-after-touchdown kicks and finished the year with 112 points.
Bowers had 27 total tackles on the year, one interception, three breakups and one block.
Masiva also had 27 total tackles on the year, including three for loss.
Espadron picked up All-National Division, Southern League honors and All-Region III offensive honors after capping his sophomore season with 43 receptions for 748 yards, averaging 17.4 yards per catch. He scored five touchdowns, including one for 77 yards. The wide receiver also returned 16 kickoffs, averaging 20.8 yards per return.
Ugorji finished the year with 16 carries for 78 yards. The running back had a longest carry for 22 yards and also had six kick returns for 116 yards, averaging 19.3 yards per return.
Sandoval helped the Tiger offensive line limit opponents to 26 sacks on the year and helped Riverside average 522.6 total offensive yards per game.
Moorer had two tackles in two games as a defensive lineman.
