
#2 Tigers Fall to #1 Mounties in SCFA Championship
No. 2-ranked Riverside City College fought until the end but fell 37-35 to No. 1-ranked Mt. San Antonio College in the Southern California Football Association Championship.
The Tigers finish the year with a 10-2 record, while the Mounties improve to 12-0 and advance to the 3C2A State Championship.
RCC finished with 510 yards total offense, including 331 passing yards and 179 rushing yards.
Brady Jones went 27-for-44 with one touchdown pass to Marquis Monroe and ran in another touchdown. Devyne Pearson scored three touchdowns and finished with 113 yards.
Saipeti Maiava, Jr. led the Tigers with 11 tackles, while Shaheem Taylor added eight and Ahamad Chapman had six.
It came down to the final minute of action as Mt. SAC hit a 48-yard field goal to take the lead. The Tigers got the ball with one minute, 34 seconds on the clock and Jones connected to Dominic Cox for 53 yards to get into Mountie territory. A false start killed Riverside's momentum and set the Tigers back five yards, while also taking 10 seconds off the clock.
RCC called a timeout with 19 seconds to play but couldn't get another first down to get into field goal territory as Mt. SAC held on for the 37-35 victory.
