Malik Holcomb Named SCFA Central Division Week Five Offensive Player of the Week
For the second-consecutive week, the No. 2 Riverside City College football team has seen an offensive player be named the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Central Division Offensive Player of the Week. This week, sophomore wide receiver Malik Holcomb (Chicago, IL) reels in the week-five nod after his standout performance in a 31-20 victory over Cerritos College.
Holcomb was a strong component in a commanding victory over the Falcons by hauling in seven grabs for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He averaged 11 yards-per-catch and was responsible for seven of just 11 pass attempts from sophomore quarterback Vic Viramontes (Norco, CA).
Holcomb hauled in Riverside's opening score on a streak down the near sideline and hauled in the grab in full stride. He found the end zone one more time in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard pass reception.
The Chicago, IL native paces his squad in receptions (25), receptions-per-game (5), receiving yards-per-game (64.4), and total receiving yards (325). Additionally, he has recorded at least three grabs in each game this season. His seven for 130 both act as career high clips.
Holcomb joins freshman kicker John Garibay (Rubidoux, CA) and Viramontes as SCFA Athletes of the Week in 2017.
The Tigers are currently ranked second in the state in the California Community College Sports Information Association poll (CCCSIA) and the Junior College Athletics Bureau rankings. They enter their bye week, but return home on Saturday, October 14th and face Chaffey College.
