Riverside STUNT Performs Well in Michigan

Riverside STUNT Performs Well in Michigan

Riverside's STUNT team started its fourth season of competition on Sunday, January 7 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The team traveled to Michigan for a tournament at Davenport University. They played a record 4 games throughout the day and secured four wins. Game one the tigers faced a tough division opponent in Grand Valley State University. The win was secured in the fourth quarter with a 13-12 victory over the Lakers. Game two and three featured two more wins against division opponents Hiram College (18-3), and a shutout against Olivet College with a 19-0 victory. The last game of the day, the Tigers played a Division 1 team and walked away with an 18-2 victory. The STUNT team kicks off its season with a 4-0 record.

Game one, two and three stat leaders were rookie Tigers Madison and Madalynne Murray. Both athletes scored a game rating of 30 against Grand Valley State, 28 against Hiram College and 34 against Olivet College. The twin sisters are alumni of Centennial High School. Lizzy Anne (Riverside King High) and Casey Chapman (Riverside King High) led the tigers to a win against Oakland University with a game rating of 31 each.

"We had an amazing time in Michigan. We made friends with fellow athletes from around the country, braved a monumental mid-west blizzard and ended our journey undefeated said coach Fawcett. I learned that my Tigers are not only talented, but they are mentally tough."

STUNT is a growing female sport with NCAA Emerging Sport status. STUNT focuses on the athletic components of cheerleading: partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, jumps and tumbling. A STUNT game is a head to head match which consists of four quarters; quarter one is partner stunts, quarter two is pyramids and tosses, quarter three is jumps and tumbling and quarter four is a combination of all skills. Each team executes specific skills in the corresponding quarter and officiators use a point system to determine which team receives a point. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
