Underdog Women’s Track & Field Wins 2022 OEC Championships

It was no question that the lack of Riverside City College women's track and field left a void in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships a year ago. After acting as a huge underdog entering into championship play, the Tigers gave their opponents déjà vu by hauling in the 2022 crown in a tight-knit battle.

The Tigers fended off Saddleback by 12 points to capture the title after scoring 226 points. Saddleback followed with 214 points, while Orange Coast placed third with 204 points.

Alejandra Rosales continued her impressive reign in the throws with another gold medal coming in the Hammer (140' 3"). The second place finisher wasn't even close to competing as she chucked her tool eight feet further than her nearest opponent. She continued on to dominated the Discus (131' 0") as well.

The relay squads came in clutch as Zoe Ewell, Hailey Hunt, Kayla Johnson and Briana Olujoku hauled in a top finish in the 400 M Relay (48.19). They quartet followed by linking up for a top finish in the 4 x 400 M Relay (4:02.27) as well. They defeated second place Saddleback by approximately nine seconds.

Hunt and Ewell finished consecutively in the 100 M with Hunt (12.03) taking home the gold. Ewell (12.23) was a close second. Olujoku followed with a second place finish in the 400 M (58.41), while Hunt placed second in the 200 M (24.41) by two tenths of a second.

Laila Wright scored a clutch 10 points by placing first in the 800 M (2:25.73), while Briana Rodriguez fisnihed second in the 5000 M (20:04.31).
