Despite Losing, 3-0, at Saddleback Friday, Tigers Win Protest & Will Replay Match At a Later Date
MISSION VIEJO -- Having its protest upheld by Orange Empire Conference (OEC) commissioner John Keever, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's volleyball team will replay its OEC road match against the host Saddleback College Gauchos Friday (Oct. 14).
For the time being, Saddleback "won" the match by the set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-20. But near the end of the second set, RCC head coach Monica Hayes-Trainer lodged a protest when the Tigers were forced to give back three points when its server was found to be out of rotation. According to NCAA rules, only the last point should have been forfeited when the opposition noticed the infraction and not retroactively.
Not counting the match at Saddleback, Riverside is 11-5 overall, 5-2 OEC.
Riverside City will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when it hosts the Fullerton College Hornets to open the second round of OEC action. First service is scheduled for 6 p.m.
