RCC Spikers Come From Two Sets Behind to Win, 3-2, at Cerritos Wednesday
NORWALK -- Spotting the host team a 2-0 lead in sets, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's volleyball team roared back to win a nonconference match, 3-2, over the host Cerritos College Falcons Wednesday night (Sept. 24).
Riverside (3-6 overall) won the match by the set scores of 19-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-11. The come-from-two-sets-behind victory marked the first time since October 10, 2012, versus Fullerton, that a RCC squad spotted an opponent a 2-0 lead in sets before bouncing back to pull out the match win.
RCC was led by sophomore outside hitter Naomi Tilford (Vista / Vista '11 / San Diego Mesa CC) with a whopping 17 kills and 24 digs. Frosh setter Melissa Moe (Riverside / Poly '14) had 19 assists and sophomore setter Sarah Kelly (Riverside / John W. North '13) had 16 assists and 16 digs to aid the Tigers' cause. Sophomore defensive specialist Hannah Lockhart (Moreno Valley / Calvary Chapel '12) had 15 digs and sophomore utility Michelle Loftus (Riverside / La Sierra '10) added ten kills for RCC.
With the win, Riverside will be idle until Friday, Oct. 3, when it opens Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play at home against the visiting Santa Ana College Dons. First service is scheduled for 6 p.m.
