Relays Wins, Hunt's Performance Leads Women's Track and Field To State Runner-Up

Complete 2022 CCCAA State Track and Field Results

Hailey Hunt won the 200 meters and helped the Tigers to gold medals in both relays as the Riverside City College women's track and field team finished as state runner-up to champion and host Mt. San Antonio at the 2022 CCCAA State Championships meet held Friday and Saturday.

Riverside scored 69 points for second place in the team standings as Mt. SAC won with 115.5 points while Saddleback was third with 67.

Hunt was named Tri-Outstanding Athlete of the Meet as she edged Saddleback's Maliyah Medley to win the 200 in a time of 24.14, just .20 ahead of Medley.

The quartet of Hunt, Zoe Ewell, Kayla Johnson, and Briana Olukoju were brilliant in winning the 4x100 relay in 47.12 as Ewell's opening split put the Tigers well out in front. The fabulous four did it again with its gold in the 4x400 relay in 3:58.81, the only squad to break the 4-minute mark.

Ewell won the 100 with another explosive trip from the blocks in 11.79, just .02 off her state-best mark. Hunt challenged Ewell near the tape and her 11.922 photo-finished ahead of Chabot's Zharia Dixon's 11.928 for the silver. The race featured just a .20 second separation among the top five sprinters.

Alejandra Rosales rallied in the fourth round to win the discus event in the state's best throw of the season--44.02 meters (144-5 feet). Rosales trailed Sequoias' Alyssa Logan by 1.72 meters before landing the event-winning toss that opened the schedule for Saturday's competition. Rosales also scored and took fourth place in the shot put (11.94 meters). She was 11th in the hammer throw held on Friday.

Laila Wright picked up four scoring points in placing fifth in the 800 meters at 2:20.19. Briana Rodriguez scored with a seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase in 12:08.58.

With no state meets held in 2020 or 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tigers finished in second for the second consecutive state meet, also placing state runner-up in 2019 at College of San Mateo. RCC won state titles in the sport in 1993 and 1994.
