RCC Finds Success at Ben Brown Invite

Riverside City College held its own against tough competition at the Ben Brown Invitational, including NCAA Division I opponents.

Mekhi Gilmore finished second in the 400-meter race, clocking in at 48.52 seconds – which automatically qualifies him for the 3C2A State Championship.

Ernesto Ruiz finished the 5000-meter in 14:33.53, which put him 17th overall and was the second-fastest time by a two-year athlete.

Tschaikowsky Brown took 13th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.20 seconds, while Levi Vela also placed in the top 20 after clocking in at 16.16 seconds for 19th place.

Buron Pruitt placed 10th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.10, while Brown took 13th in 58.16 and Rowan Hudson was two spots behind at 59.62 seconds.

Kalil O'Brien grabbed an automatic qualifier in the 3K steeplechase, finishing in 9:53.05.

Jack Slavin took 17th in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:01.43, which was the third-best time in his heat.

The 4x400 relay team of Gilmore, Jacob Petrick, Jason Deal and Elijah Davis finished in 3:16.41, just .09 seconds faster than Mt. San Antonio College's relay team, and good for an automatic qualifying mark, while the 4x100 relay team of Marcellus Linton, Elijah Davis, Jason Deal and Kye Fowlkes took eighth overall and a 3C2A 'B' qualifying mark of 42.44 seconds.

Bryson Williamson took ninth in the high jump at 1.96 meters to automatically secure a spot in the 3C2A Championship, while Devyn Smith secured his spot in the triple jump with an automatic qualifying mark of 48 feet, 2.75 inches.

Edward Ta'amilo took third overall in the discus (56.65 meters), fourth overall in the hammer (57.66 meters), and sixth overall in the shot put (16.03 meters). Justin Stevens grabbed eighth in the javelin with a hurl of 44.75 meters, which won his flight.
