Track & Field Set to Push for State Title

The Riverside City College track & field programs are set to compete in the 2023 3C2A State Championships starting on Friday, May 19 at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, CA.

The Tigers qualified in 27 total events featuring 21 events for the men and six events for the women.

On the men's side, the throws squad qualified five total competitors with three or more athletes competing in three different events.

Sophomore Donal Aluesi highlights the bunch as he will compete in the Shot Put (53' 3"), Hammer (173' 10") and the Discus (160' 9"). Freshman Edward Ta'amilo will compete in the Hammer (150' 8"), Discus (166') and Shot Put (50' 6 ¼"), while freshman Christina Burroughs will join him in participating in the Shot Put (51' ¼"), Discus (159' 4") and Hammer (148' 6"). Sophomore Allan Rennie will jump in on the Shot Put (48' 3 ½") and Discus (151' 1"). Freshman Anthony McCullough rounds out the bunch as he will chuck the Javelin (181' 5").

Holding down the jumps squad is sophomore Darius Hill as he qualifies in the Long Jump (23' 11 ½") and the High Jump (6' 8 ¾"). Sophomore Reno Vasquez will join him in the High Jump (6' ¾") and also compete in the Decathlon thought the two-day affair.

Sophomore Gavyn Condit will strap in for the 10,000 M (31:53.55) and look to add to his 2023-23 hardware after reigning supreme in the 2022 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Cross Country Championships in the Fall. He earned Male Runner of the Meet for his efforts. Freshman Ernesto Ruiz will join him in the distance competition as he qualified in the 3,000 M (9:38.50).

Sophomore Joshua Hornsby will act as the lone individual speedster with after winning the 110 M Hurdles (14.01) at the 3C2A Southern Regional Championships last weekend. Sophomore Kyle Reden punched his ticket in the 800 M (1:53.13) after taking the top spot in the Southern Regionals, while sophomore Luke Gleason will join him in the 800 M (1:54.10) after hauling in the bronze medal.

The Tigers will look to snap the tape in the 1600 M Relay (3:14. 64) to round out their event list.

The women's side features the full tilt sprinter Zoe Ewell. She earned qualifying marks in the 100 M (11.98) and the 200 M (24.54). She qualified in both events last season to mark her second-consecutive appearance.

Sophomore Elani Huntley will try her legs in the 1,500 M (4:52.51), while freshman Dakota Zamarripa will buckle up for the 3,000 M Steeplechase (12:40.03).

The throws squad sends sophomore Alejandra Rosales and freshman Rylee Blanton. Rosales enters in the Hammer (145' 4"), while Blanton will also toss the Hammer (141' 8").
