Ryan Hernandez & Sierra Scott Named to OEC Character Champion Team

The Orange Empire Conference (OEC) recently announced the 2021 Nevco Character Champion Award Winners and Team. Riverside baseball's Ryan Hernandez and indoor and beach volleyball's Sierra Scott were named to the Character Champion Team.

Hernandez has been a catalyst to the success of the RCC Student-Athlete Advisory Council as the President while representing the baseball program.

Throughout the shutdown, all while being faced with a canceled season, Hernandez focused on keeping himself involved in his studies, athletic department endeavors and providing opportunities for his fellow student-athletes.

He has displayed leadership in his SAAC Presidency by assisting with Mental Health Awareness seminars, SAAC budgeting and planning, acting as the voice for over 600 student-athletes and representing the student-athlete population on various panels and meetings with campus leadership.

Prior to the shutdown, Hernandez was an integral part to the team. In seven appearances, he posted a bullpen low 1.76 ERA with 15 strikeouts while allowing just six hits in 15 innings pitched. In three of his seven appearances, he fanned four batters and allowed just one run.

Degrees: Kinesiology, Health & Wellness, Social & Behavioral Studies, Communication Studies

GPA: 3.33

Scott has taken on a significant role for the athletic department despite the over yearlong shutdown. A dual sport student-athlete participating in indoor and beach volleyball, Scott has been an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council serving as the Vice President.

She has helmed numerous events and initiatives such as weekly meetings, insight on agenda, budgeting, purchasing and participation in various media initiatives. Additionally, she is an active club member on campus.

In 2019, she earned 61 kills, 13 digs and 26 total blocks in 25 matches

Degree: AA in Kinesiology, Health and Wellness

GPA: 3.58
