Tigers Throttle San Diego City, 87-72, Saturday; Riverside Faces Sacramento City on Thursday in Gilcrest Invitational in Visalia

RIVERSIDE -- Having a trio of double-digit scorers and rebounders, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's basketball team returned to its winning ways with an 87-72 nonconference home win over the visiting San Diego City College (SDCC) Knights on Saturday (Nov. 26) at historic Arthur N. Wheelock Gymnasium.

Riverside City (8-1 overall) fell behind, 7-0, and 13-6 before closing the first quarter with a 14-1 run and a 20-14 lead. RCC led, 43-33, at halftime and 72-53 after three quarters. With 4:54 left in the game, RCC posted its biggest lead at 82-57.

RCC frosh guard Chiderah Uzowuru (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt HS '14) led RCC with 20 points and added 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Paradise Hanchett (Moreno Valley / Rancho Verde HS '15) had 18 points and a team-high 14 rebounds.

Frosh forward Darria Hewitt (Riverside / Patriot HS '16), who missed the last two weeks with an injury, returned to the starting lineup and had eight points and 12 rebounds. Frosh guard Dejah Wright (Moreno Valley / Valley View HS '16) came off the bench and popped in a very quiet season-high 16 points and added five assists and five steals.

For San Diego City (1-4 overall), the Knights were led by sophomore center Samera Henry San Diego / Lincoln HS), who had a team-high 19 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

In its next action, Riverside will face the Sacramento City College (SCC) Panthers on Thursday, Dec. 1, in a 3 p.m. nonconference tipoff in the 40th Annual Tom Gilcrest Invitational Tournament which is being hosted by the College of the Sequoias in Visalia.

Through eight games, Gonzalez leads the Tigers in scoring with 16.1 points per game (ppg, 129 points), followed by Uzowuru (13.8 ppg, 110 points) and Hanchett (12.9 ppg, 103 points). Hanchett leads with 111 rebounds (13.9 rebounds per game, followed by Uzowuru with 96 rebounds (12.0 rebounds per game). Uzowuru leads with 36 assists (4.5 per game).
