Men’s Golf Returns to State Championship with Third-Place Regional Showing

After a strong showing in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships, the Riverside City College men's golf team hit the road to participate in the 3C2A Southern Regional Championships at the Industry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry, CA. The Tigers leaned on a strong performance from their top-two swingers leading to a third-place finish.

Riverside is one of four teams that qualified for the 3C2A State Championships next Monday at the Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera, CA. The Tigers carded a 770 team score to finish a mere nine strokes behind second-place finishing College of the Desert. Saddleback placed first overall with a total of 741 strokes.

Sophomore Bingcheng Zheng paced the Tigers with a 142 stroke count. He started his day with a two-over 73, but completed his day with a two-under 69. He had four birdies in his second round. His score landed him in the top-two amongst the field.

Sophomore Kyle Hartford had an equally as impressive round by shooting a 69 his first time around the course. He followed with a 76 to finish with a stroke count of 145 leading to a fourth-place individual showing.

Freshman Vincent Chen shot a 158 with identical 78 score during each round. Freshman Ryan Osorio followed with a 164, while freshman Aiden Forrest capped the top performances with a 165 (81, 84).
