Tigers' Comeback Falls Just Short to No. 28 Chargers

Riverside City College overcame an 18-point margin at halftime to take No. 28-ranked Cypress College down to the wire but came up just short in a 66-62 loss.

The Tigers drop to 12-12 on the year and 4-7 in Orange Empire Conference action, while the Chargers improve to 17-7 overall, 7-4 in conference.

Corey Mitchell led the Tigers with 11 points (5-for-10), while Jayden Miller followed with 10 points (4-for-7).

The Tigers out-rebounded the Chargers 44-to-36, with Andre Skelin grabbing a game-high 10 boards. Mitchell was one board shy of a double-double, while Myon Kirlew added seven rebounds.

After trailing by 18 at halftime, RCC managed to cut the deficit down to single digits heading down the stretch, 61-53, off two Christian Warren free throws.

With 2:33 on the clock, Miller drained a big three to put the Tigers within reach, 64-61, but couldn't get over the hump as the Chargers sealed the 66-62 victory.

RCC has three games left in the regular season, next heading to Irvine Valley College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip.
