Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Place Second at Brubaker Invitational

After a two-week hiatus, the Riverside City College cross country program hits the trails with fresh legs to compete in the 2019 Brubaker Invitational in Irvine, CA. Both sides landed on the podium by hauling in second place.

The women continued to perform at a high level as seen in their fifth-consecutive top-three finish. Two runners landed in the top-10 highlighted by the efforts of sophomore staple Emiliana Merida Cano. Cano placed sixth overall with a time of 19:54.47. she utilized an average mile time of 6:24.5 leading to her finish.

Sophomore Ariel Martinez placed eighth overall with a mark of 20:01.07. Her average mile time was 6:26.6. Freshman Helena Valdez landed in the top-20 with a 16th overall mark reading 20:33.47. Sophomore Aliy Camacho rounded out the top-25 with a mark of 21:15.41.

The men earned their third-straight second place finish. Freshman Alberto Lopez paced the Tigers with a seventh place finish. He crossed the finish line with a mark reading 21:06.5 including a 5:16.7 average mile time. Sophomore Ricardo Cruz followed in eighth place with a mark of 21:08.2.

Three more Tigers landed in the top-20 with freshman Vincent Capacete placed 15th with a mark of 21:17.8, while freshman Jordan Wilson followed in 17th place. He earned a mark of 21:22.2. Freshman Andrew Hess finished his trot in 20th pace with a time of 21:30.8.

Riverside will participate in the UC Riverside meet next Friday, October 19 at 7 a.m.
