Bio

Isabel Alanis, assistant professor, Counseling, became the College’s student-academic counselor in fall of 2016. With the College since 2004, Alanis holds a master’s degree in Counseling from Loyola Marymount University and an undergraduate degree in Sociology/Administrative Studies from University of California, Riverside.

In her time with athletics, she has been able to develop and effective working relationship with faculty/coaches, athletic director and staff in instructional and subject areas, and perform liaison activities as required for individuals competing in athletics. She works closely with Evaluations Office to streamline the process for student athletes. She also provides semester-by-semester plans. She is knowledgeable of NCAA (Division I, Division II, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) transfer rules/requirements.

Alanis, who also teaches for the College, began her career as an educational advisor and assessment specialist. In January 2014, she became a counselor and an associate faculty member. In 2016, she helped to develop the La Casa, an engagement center centered on supporting Latino students. As the primary counselor for students, Alanis coordinated the development and implementation of the Center’s Support Services Program, increasing student success and retention for underrepresented student groups.
