Hannah McCarley's MVP Nod Highlights Seven All-OEC Accolades
The Riverside City College women's water polo team recently capped their 2018 season in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regionals. They finished their season with an overall record of 19-8 which encompassed a 5-1 record in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play.
At the conclusion of conference play, seven student-athletes were named to the OEC All-Conference teams highlighted by sophomore goalkeeper Hannah McCarley being named the Co-Most Valuable Player. Sophomore center Kate Fox and freshman attacker Hannah Peercy were named to the First-Team All-Conference list, while sophomore attacking tandem Nikkol Webber and Caelan Loroff earned Second-Team All-Conference recognition. Furthermore, freshman attacking tandem Amelia Bennett and Patricija Ostarcevic were named to the Honorable Mention team.
McCarley has been one of the strongest goalkeepers in the conference since her inaugural season in 2017. Throughout her final campaign in conference play, she started in all six contests and racked up 62 saves leading to a 10.7 save percentage. She earned five wins to equal an 83.3 winning percentage. She landed in double-digit saves five times in conference play highlighted by a 26-save effort in a victory over Fullerton. Her 26 saves act as a career high. McCarley finishes her career with a 36-13 record that includes 463 saves and a 73.5 winning percentage in 49 games played.
Fox was a monster in the middle for the Tigers as she hauls in her second-career all-conference accolade. After earning second-team recognition last year, Fox was named to the first team after netting 16 goals, drawing 14 ejections, and pocketing 12 steals in conference play. She was a valuable asset to the offensive success as she scored at least one goal in every contest but one. Her highest conference output was a five goal outburst in a commanding victory over Orange Coast.
Peercey strung together a solid inaugural season and earned her way to a First-Team All-Conference honor. While pacing her team with 42 assists and tying for second with 42 goals and 42 steals, Peercey acted as one of the most well-rounded players in the conference. Her vision in the pool was her strong suit as seen in 16 assists which ranked her second-overall in the OEC. She recorded a conference-high mark of five assists against Golden West while dishing out two or more assists in all other conference games but one.
Webber caps her Tiger career with a second-team nod after completing a strong season. While she was a sturdy contributor throughout the season, she turned it on in conference play and netted a team-tying 16 conference goals. She scored at least two goals in each conference contest to prove her consistency. Furthermore, she was dynamic on the defensive end with 12 steals highlighted by a six-steal effort in a victory over Orange Coast.
Loroff earned a Second-Team All-Conference accolade in her final season for Riverside. She ranked third on her team in conference goals scored with 13 accompanied by 11 assists and nine steals. She played one of her strongest game in a victory over Fullerton where she netted a pair of goals, dished out three assists, and pocketed three steals.
Bennet was named to the honorable mention team in her first year after string together a strong opening campaign. In conference, she finished with 11 assists, eight goals, four drawn ejections, and three steals. Ostarcevic was also tabbed an honorable mention player after scoring six goals, drawing 11 ejections, and recoding four assists in conference play.
