Riverside Records Season-High Three-Point Percentage, Snags First Conference Win
After dropping its first three Orange Empire Conference (OEC) contests, the Riverside City College men's basketball team entered into a showdown against the Irvine Valley College Lasers with a must-win mentality. The score was knotted up at halftime, but the Tigers utilized a cutthroat offensive attack mixed with a stout defense and outscored the Lasers by 14 points in the second half leading to an 86-72 win.
Riverside utilized a core group of characters that were effective and smooth in the victory as seen in a 54.7 shooting percentage. Their three-point play was phenomenal as they shot a season-high 63.2 percent from downtown.
As he has done in countless contests, sophomore guard CJ Clark helmed the offensive arsenal en route to 21 points. He was electric from the floor highlighted by knocking down four three pointers. He finished with a 7-for-12 mark from the floor to go along with six assists and a pair of steals.
Freshman guard Otto Taylor was quick on the trigger as he recorded a mark of 4-for-5 from three-point land to finish with 16 points. Freshman guard Chris Harper worked his way to 13 points on the night by driving the land strong and finishing at the rim. He was a force on the defensive end by racking up seven boards.
The intangible play of sophomore forward Franky McQuay opened up the floor for the entire offense. He contributed 10 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Rico Tate facilitate the offense at the point with nine points and four assists.
Riverside (12-8, 1-3 OEC) will continue action on Friday, January 25 as they hit the road to face off against the Orange Coast College Pirates.
