Winning streak grows to four as RCC demolishes Long Beach 75-12 in record setting fashion
LONG BEACH (9-29-2012) – Riverside (4-1, 2-0 Central Conference) continued their dominance since dropping the first game of the season with their 75-12 romping against winless Long Beach City College (0-5, 0-2 Central Conference). Riverside, ranked No. 7 in the nation, has outscored their previous four opponents 204-39, and the opponents have woefully averaged just under 10 points per game in that span. The Tigers set passing, receiving, and scoring records against the inferior Vikings on Saturday afternoon.
Sizzling quarterback Zach Adkins must love Veterans Memorial Stadium because he rewrote the record books with throwing six touchdowns. The previous record was five touchdowns by three different quarterbacks, but what makes Adkins record so special is that he managed to throw all six of his touchdowns in the first half. Adkins led the Tigers to a 44-6 lead at intermission. The record could have possibly risen to double-digits; however, Coach Tom Craft decided to rest Adkins for the second half. Adkins completed 18 of 23 passes and amassed 346 passing yards. Wide receiver Devonn Brown was Adkins primary passing option as he tied an RCC record with three touchdowns.
Backup quarterback Tyler Shreve started the second half and picked up where Adkins left off. Shreve completed 10 of 11 passes, threw three touchdowns, and rushed for 47 yards. The Tigers outscored the Vikings 24-0 in the third quarter.
Third-string quarterback Max Holmes ran a 47-yard touchdown with 7:29 remaining in the final period to set the second highest scoring game in RCC history.
Jamil Austin caught two touchdowns, and Deji Olajide scored a 57-yard touchdown pass. Paul Senn had seven tackles, Ofa Fifita had six tackles, and Ryan Coleman and Nick Gathrite finished with five tackles each.
The Tigers will host Fullerton College (2-2, 1-0 Central Conference) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
