Track & Field Program Set for CCCAA State Championships

Track & Field Program Set for CCCAA State Championships

The Riverside City College track and field program is set to compete at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships beginning on Friday, May 19 at Mt. San Antonio College. The Tigers placed third in the Southern California Regionals on both sides making them top competitors for a podium finsih at the state championships.

WOMEN

Alejandra Rosales leads the Tigers as she continues to act as the top thrower in state. She has successfully qualified with state-pacing marks in the Discus (42.77m) and Shot Put (12.61m). She has also earned the sixth best mark in the Hammer (43.52m).

Riverside's 4 x 100 M Relay (47.08) ranks tops in the state comprised of Zoe Ewell, Kayla Johnson, Hailey Hunt and Briana Olujoku. Ewell, who was tabbed the fasted runner in the south, currently boasts the top time in the 100 M (11.77). The quartet will also look to snap the tape in the 4 x 400 M (3:54.47) with their time holding as the best in the state.

Hunt (11.93) follows with the fourth-strongest time in the 100 M, backed by the third-strongest mark in the 200 M (24.25).

Brianna Rodriguez continues to pace the distance squad with the fourth-strongest mark in the 3000 M Steeplechase (12:03.04).

MEN

The men placed third at the Southern Regional behind a strong showing from their jumps and distance runners.

Joshua Hornsby will look to snap the tape in the 110 M Hurdles (14.13) as he has paced the state all season.

Novye James qualified in the Long Jump (7.10m) and the Triple Jump (14.58m) as both seed times land in the top five in the state. Darius Hill (7.08m) follows with the fourth best time to compete for a podium spot. He will also be on the hunt for a top finish in the High Jump (2.05m) as he currently holds the fourth strongest seed mark.  

Donal Aluesi has qualified for the Shot Put (15.07m) and will look to medal. Gonzalo Sanchez will compete in the 800 M (1:53.63) with the fifth strongest mark. Kyle Reden (1:53.70) follows behind.
