Women’s Swimming & Diving Qualifies in Nine Events, Five Relays & Men Take Two in State Meet

The Riverside City College swimming & diving program is fresh off a second place showing in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships and are poised for a strong showing in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships. The Tigers qualified in nine events and five relays in hopes of hauling in the title.

The Tigers have a great chance to haul in the one-meter and three-meter title with OEC Female Diving Champion Lorelai Carney acting as the favorite. Carney has posted a top state mark of 236.77 in the one meter, which is just over 21 points better than the second seeded score, and a 256.27 seeded score in the three meter. She is 16 points ahead of the second-place diver.

Riverside qualified for five relay events coming in the 200 Free (1:41.14), 400 Medley (4:19.10), 200 Medley (1:56.33), 800 Free (8:16.67) and the 400 Free (3:45.47). Their best seed time comes in the 200 Free with the third best mark in the state, while they sit fourth overall in the 800 Free and the 400 Free.

A trio of swimmers qualified for three events featuring Lauren Loffelmacher, Lindsey Habegger and Pilar Lara.

Loffelmacher reached the state championships due to her talents in the 200 IM (2:18.53), 400 IM (4:57.71) and the 200 Back (2:16.60). Her strongest mark comes in the 400 IM with a sixth-best mark in the state.

Habegger qualified for the 100 Free (55.49), 200 Free (2:02.68), 50 Free (25.83 – B Standard) with her 200 Free time reaching the top-10 in the state. Lara will dive in with qualifying times in the 200 IM (2:18.89), 100 Back (1:02.50) and the 200 Back (2:16.98).

Valerie Juarez will round out the swimmers by qualifying in two events featuring the 50 Free (25.55) and the 100 Free (56.50 - B Standard).

O the men's side, Ilias Massignan qualified for three events coming in the 500 Free (4:56.92), 1650 Free (17:15.80) and the 400 IM (4:24.23). Yanis Massignan follows with a 400 IM (4:26.04) qualifying time – just two seconds slower than his brother.
