Multiple Games Postponed Due to COVID-19 Protocols

The Riverside City College men's and women's basketball programs have been forced to postpone a handful of games due to the COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Due to the rising cases and risks with the Delta and Omicron variant, the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board of Directors approved the COVID-19 Working Group recommendations to add one week to the end of the regular season. The additional week allows for postponed contests to be played if teams were unable to find an agreed upon reschedule date prior to the final week.

The added week to the regular season eliminates the dead week prior to the beginning of the CCCAA men's and women's basketball state championships hosted by West Hills College - Lemoore. The tournament has not been moved and set to be played on March 10-13.

The men's team was forced to cancel three consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) games in the past two weeks that featured matchups against Orange Coast, Cypress and Saddleback. Additionally, they were unable to play a non-conference game against LA Valley in late December. That game will not be rescheduled.

Since the postponements, the Orange Coast contest has been rescheduled for Monday, January 31 on the road and the Cypress contest for Monday, January 14 at home. Both games are listed at 5 p.m. The postponed game against Saddleback is has not been rescheduled at this time.

Currently, they are still on track to host the Santiago Canyon College Hawks at home on Friday, January 14 at 5 p.m.

The idea of a conference tournament was floated to the conference that would be played during the added week of the regular season, but it was voted down by the Athletic Directors.

The women's team has faced two conference cancellations and two non-conference cancellation. Games against LA Trade Tech and East Los Angeles were cancelled due to COVID, but one game was replaced with Mission.

On the conference side, the Tigers' game against Golden West on Friday, January 7 and Santa Ana on Friday, January 14 have been postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The reschedule dates are to be determined.
