RCC Athletics Returns to Play in One Week

We're back.

Well, partially. But Riverside City College Athletics has returned for the 2021 Spring II season in men's and women's track and field, men's and women's tennis and men's golf.

RCC Athletics, after collaborating with President Gregory Anderson and his leadership team, partially opted into the Spring II season with the goal of competition beginning in just one week.

The last time the Tigers competed in an athletic contest was over one year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. Baseball, softball and men' and women's swimming and diving will not be competing.

The men's golf team is set to begin its season on the road Monday, April 12 at Victory Valley, while the women's tennis team will begin its campaign on the road Tuesday, April 13 against the Cypress College Chargers.

Men's tennis will follow on the road next Tuesday, April 20 against the Orange Coast College Pirates and the men's and women's track & field teams will begin their seasons at home on Friday, April 23.

Men's golf will look to regain championship form with nine tournaments on the schedule. They will begin with two non-conference tournaments hosted by Victor Valley and Ventura. The remainder of their season includes seven-consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) tournaments. They will host two of the conference tournaments on Monday, April 26 and Monday, May 16.

Women's tennis, who acted as a 2020 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state championship contender, hopes to pick up right where they left off last season.

After an impressive 10-1 start in 2020, they begin their 2021 season with strictly OEC challengers. THey start with Cypress, followed by Orange Coast and Saddleback. Their strongest opponent, Irvine Valley, will come to town starting Tuesday, May 4, capped by a two-match finale against Fullerton College beginning on Tuesday, May 11.

Men's tennis has a similar schedule layout as the women, with the exception of Cypress, who does not have a men's program. Last season, the Tigers ended by winning three out of their final four matches. They will look to keep the momentum flowing in the right direction.

Men's and women's track and field, a powerhouse in the Southern region, will undoubtedly impress in a shortened season. They begin their campaign with three-consecutive meets at home featuring the RCC Open #1, OEC Meet #2 and the RCC Open #2.

They will conclude their seasons with a pair of championship events featuring a two-day OEC Multi/10K Championships and the OEC Championships. The Multi Championships will begin on Tuesday, May 18 and conclude the following day. The OEC Championships is set for Friday, May 28 at Saddleback College.
