Women’s Swimming Dominates OEC Meet #1, Men Place Third

The Riverside City College swimming & diving program competed in the first Orange Empire Conference (OEC) meet of the season. The women continued their streak at the top of the podium by rutting the competition leading to a first-place finish by over 450 points. The men landed on the podium by placing third overall.

The women hauled in six gold medals with freshman Nicole Tormey leading the way. In her first collegiate appearance in the pool, the phenome touched the wall first in the 50 Free (25.26), 200 Free (2:05.49) and 100 Free (54.83). She was responsible for 60 total points.

Sophomore Hannah Beth Cain continued to prove her prowess in notching top marks in the 200 IM (2:24.57) and the 200 Back (2:17.54). Each mark bested her seed time. Sandwiched in between her two top finishes was a second place mark in the 100 Back (1:03.06).

Sophomore Ameila Bennett earned a first-place mark in the 200 Fly (2:23.19). Her top mark was accompanied by to silver medals coming in the 500 Free (5:37.27) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:14.65). Sophomore Liz Bouffort landed on the podium in three events with a second place finish coming in the 100 Free (55.18). She began her day with a pair of third place finishes in the 50 Free (25.70) and the 200 Free (2:01.30).

Freshman Victoria Hernandez was dynamic in her three events with a second place finish in the 200 Fly (2:25.28), backed by two third place clips in the 200 IM (2:24.88) and the 100 Fly (1:07.21). Sophomore Michelle Hiller added a third place finish in the 100 Free (55.85).

Sophomore Celina Melgoza was the lone diver and earned a pair of silver medals coming in the one meter (154.05) and the three meter (152.78).

On the men's side, sophomore Erick Fathoni continued his dominance with a trio of first place marks. He touched the wall first in the 500 Free (4:37.10), 100 Breaststroke (58.33) and 200 Fly (1:58.08). In his first and third events, he shattered his seed time.

Freshman Ben McCombs chipped in a top finish in the 100 Fly (54.40), while freshman Fernando Duenas earned a second place time in the 100 Back (55.72).

The men's diving proved to be strong as freshman Matthew Carney earned a top finish in the one meter (173.86). He capped his day with a third place finish on the three meter (133.87). Freshman Joshua Schroeder earned two first-place finishes coming in the one meter (159.3) and the three meter (150.37).
