SoCal Preview: Track & Field Built for Success at State Level
The Riverside City College track and field team recently hauled in their seventh-consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) dual title, thus continuing to script a dominant legacy. The Tiger nearly swept the podium in every event and they look to continue the trend at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regionals hosted on their home turf.
Riverside is set to host the major event with the preliminary round occurring this Saturday, May 4 at 9 a.m. and will be concluded with the final rounds on Saturday, May 11 at 9 a.m. This will be a ticketed event as mandated by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). There will be a cash only charge of $12 for general admission and an $8 admission fee for students, faculty, staff, veterans, 60 and over and 16 and under fans. Student, faculty and staff must present a valid ID. There will be a $5 parking fee regulated by the Riverside City College District police.
The Tigers have qualified for numerous events with the chance to advance to the state championships.
Sophomore Angelique Hudson holds the top mark in the Shot Put (13.33m), while freshman Kieana Turner is nipping at her heals with the second-strongest mark (21.11m). FTurner holds the top mark in the Hammer (49.40m), while sophomore Gabriela Sanabria chucked her way to a top seed mark in the Javelin (36.50m). Freshman Tayler Salley holds the second-best marks in the Discus (38.36m) and the Hammer (48.37m).
For the women, freshman sprinter Annayah Pelt holds the top seed time in the 400 M (58.44) and the fourth-best mark in the 200 M (25.04). Freshman Alana Wilson backs her with the third strongest time in the 200 M (24.87) and the fifth-strongest mark in the 100 M (12.11). Freshman LaDaijah Wright comes in ranked fourth in the 400 M (58.84).
Sophomore Sha'quan Matthews will compete in the 100 M Hurdles with the fourth-best seed time (15.21). Sophomore Sujey Esteva will compete in three events highlighted by her third-best seed mark in the 10,000 M (40:09.19). Sophomore Madeline Corner will look to make waves in the 400 M Hurdles with the third-best seed time (63.54).
The relays bode well for the Tigers after ranking first in the 4 x 400 M Relay (3:56.86) and third in the 4 x 100 M Relay (47.67).

For the men, sophomore speedster Antonio Mitchell will act as the most highly touted individual with a tied for first seed mark in the 100 M (10.53) and a third-best mark in the 200 M (21.22). Freshman Jabriel Smith earned a third-best seed clip in the 100 M (10.60), while sophomore Jamal Palmer follows with the fourth strongest (10.69). A combination of the speed demons have contributed to the top seed mark in the 4 x 400 M Relay (3:17.48) and the second-fastest mark in the 4 x 100 M (41.03).
Sophomore Keylan Dennis earned the fourth-best seed time in the 200 M (21.28) and the 400 M (47.81). Sophomore Keanon Dennis follows with the fifth best mark in the 400 M (48.18).
Sophomore Enrique Villa will compete in two events after ranking 10th in the 800 M (1:57.39) and 11th in the 1,500 M (4:06.15). Sophomore Dillon Lay earned a sixth-best seed time in the 110 M Hurdles (14.97) and a fourth-best mark in the 400 M hurdles (53.60).
Sophomore Alec Jones qualified with a trio of top-five marks to highlight the throws teams. He earned the top mark in the Hammer (53.76m) and the Discus (47.57m) accompanied by a fourth-best mark in the Shot Put (14.87m). Freshman Patrick Maria earned the second-strongest seed mark in the Jabelin (51.15m).
Sophomore Justin Reed will compete in the Long Jump with the fourth-strongest seed mark (6.97m).
