Track & Field Qualifies for the CCCAA State Championships

The Riverside City College track and field program hit the road for San Diego Mesa College on Saturday to compete in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional finals. Both side placed in the top three with the men earning 183 total points to place second overall. The women earned 89 points to placed third overall as well.

The men earned five first-place finishes to highlight the performances. Sophomore Alec Hall continued to impress with a gold medal showing in the 800M with a time of 1:52.93. He followed with a second-place finish in the 1500M with a mark of 4:00.05.

Freshman Antonio Mitchell had a strong day by placing first in the 200M with a clip of 21.13. He followed by earning second place in the 100M by just a one hundredth of a second. He crossed the finish line with a blazing speed of 10.46.

Riverside capped off their track events by hauling in the top mark in the 4 x 400M Relay with a time of 40.65. The team consisted of Christopher Shiley, Malik Montgomery, Keanon Dennis and Keylan Dennis.

Freshman Jordon Davis earned first place in the Discus with a chuck of 163' 10". He did not let up throughout the event as he led from his first attempt.

Freshman Rebecca Hernandez earned the lone first-place mark with a top finish in the 3000M Racewalk. She crossed the finish line with a time of 22:55.30. Sophomore Sarah Hollis placed second in the 3000M Steeplechase with a time of 11:30.93, while Dehjiah Jones place second in the 400M Hurdles with a time of 1:04.49.

Freshman Angelique Hudson highlighted the field events with a second-place showing in the Shot Put after earning a mark of 44' 11.5".

The Tigers qualified for the CCCAA State Championship at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, CA. The big dance is set for Saturday, May 19th.
