Riverside Bolsters Strong Marks at SoCal Prelims

The Riverside City College track & field program qualified for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regionals after dominating the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships. The Tigers competed in the preliminary rounds and recorded some solid marks leading into the finals on Saturday, May 12th at San Diego Mesa College.

The Tigers placed in the top three in four scoring events on Friday afternoon. Rebecca Hernandez earned a first-place finish in the 3000 Race Walk with a mark of 23:55.30. Nathaniel Steele earned a first place showing in the same event with a time of 18:44.44.

The field events boded well for Riverside with Angelique Hudson reeling in the silver medal with a 44' 11.5" mark in the Shot Put. Jordan Davis earned a hurl of 47' 9.25" in the Shot Put to take home the bronze.

In the preliminary rounds, Keylan Dennis highlighted the performances placed first in the 400 M with a time of 47.86. Enrique Villa snapped the tape in the 800M with a clip of 1:55.61, while Alec Hall followed in a close second with a mark of 1:55.75. Hall also earned a mark of 4:02.80 in the 1500M to earned third place.

Antonio Mitchell earned two second-place marks with a 10.34 mark in the 100M and a 20.99 clip in the 200M. Baylee Carter tied for first place in the High Jump with a leap of 6' 4 ¾"

For the women, Sarah Hollis had the best mark by placing second in the 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 11:48.89. Karen Orozco tied for second place in the High Jump with a mark of 10'.

The Tigers will compete for a chance to advance to the CCCAA State Championships in the final round of SoCals on Saturday, May12th at San Diego Mesa College.
