Orange Coast Officially Snaps Four Conference Records in Day Two of Swimming & Diving Championships

It was a record-breaking Friday during day two of the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Swimming & Diving Championships. There were officially four records shattered by the Orange Coast College Pirates as they distanced themselves from the field on both sides. The men have a strong grasp on first place by amassing a point total of 656.5 points, while the women sit comfortable in the top spot with 613 total points.

The Pirates officially snapped four records on the day with two coming on the men's side and two on the women's side. The first record was broken in the opening event as the Pirates earned a 1:46.17 clip in the 200 Medley Relay. They broke their previous record set in 2013 by a hundredth of a second. Cheyenne Morris followed by snapping the 400 IM with a 4:35.98 mark which is approximately one second faster than the previous record set by OCC's Alexa Clayfield in 2016.

Hayden Hemmens, who broke the 500 Free record in yesterday's finals, continued to rewrite the conference record book by notching a 1:38.73 in the 200 Free. His time breaks the previous record of 1:39.68 set by Davit Sikharulidze in 2014. Meghan McClung followed with a record-setting 1:04.05 in the 100 Breaststroke to snap the previous record time of 1:04.56 held by Lisa Andrade (unknown school).

For Riverside's women, Supavee Nilaad earned a fourth-place showing in the 100 Breaststroke with a clip of 5:03.67. She began her day with a fifth place finish in the 400 IM with a mark of 5:03.67. In both events, she shaved off nearly a second from her prelim mark. Caelen Loroff placed fifth in the 200 Free with a clip of 2:06.89. She shaved off three seconds from her prelim time.

Sarah Duke earned 17 points for Saddleback with a second-place finish in the three-meter dive. Emma Pecharka followed with 15 points after placing fourth in the three-meter. Amber Theders earned a second place finish in the 400 IM with a clip of 4:50.61.

On the men's side, Orange Coast continued to dominate highlighted by H. Hemmens record breaker in the 200 Free. Diego Pabalan placed first in the 100 Back with a mark of 50.99. Akili Allen earned the other first-place showing in the 100 Fly with a time of 49.51.

Santiago Rivera hauled in his second-overall gold medal finish coming in the 400 IM with a clip of 4:01.95 which was approximately eight seconds stronger than his prelim mark. Aidan Lund placed second in the 100 Back with a time of 51.00.

Javier Bernal earned the strongest finish for the Tigers with a clip of 4:07.90 in the 400 IM.
