Track & Field Sets Numerous CCCAA State-Pacing Marks at 40th Annual Aztec Invitational

The Riverside City College track and field program traveled to San Diego, CA to compete in the 40th Annual Aztec Invitational on Saturday. Riverside competed against top Division I programs highlighted by Oregon, Arizona, UCLA, Grand Canyon, and many more. They worked towards solid numbers highlighted by six top-five finishes from the men and strong numbers from the women. Furthermore, both sides earned top marks in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state rankings.

Keaylon Dennis earned the lone gold medal finish for the Tigers coming in the 200M by snapping the tape at a time of 21.17. His time now stands as the second-fastest mark in the CCCAA. Christopher Shiley sped towards a time of 21.39 marking the fifth fastest time in the CCCAA.

Kea. Dennis also contributed to a set of second-place relay finishes. He teamed up with Antonio Mitchell, Jamal Parker, and Keanon Dennis in the 4 x 100M Relay and earned a time of 40.16. Their mark now stands as the CCCAA's top time. Kea. Dennis, Key. Dennis, Shiley, and Montgomery followed with a second-place showing in the 4 x 400M Relay with a blazing time of 3:11.55 to mark the fastest time in the CCCAA.

Mitchell earned a second-place finish in the 100M with a mark of 10.49. Alec Hall crossed the finish line with a time of 1:53.20 in the 800M to earn fifth place, while Dillon Lay earned a fifth-place showing in the 100M Hurdles with a clip of 15.58.

Maryjane Smith helmed the Tigers by placing 10th in the 400M with a mark of 57.59 which now stands as the state's fourth-best time in the CCCAA. Sha'quan Matthews earned a time of 15.80 in the 100M Hurdles. Furthermore, a 4 x 400M Relay team consisting of Argnae Meyers, Alondra Palmer, Makenzie Matteson, and Smith earned the second-best CCCAA time with a clip of 3:59.53 to earn fifth place.

Karen Orozco performed well in the Pole Vault to earn a mark of 10' 2.75" to now rank 11th in the state. Katelyn Baker's Triple Jump mark of 36' 10.5" now ranks third in the state as well.

The Tigers will continue action on Friday, March 30th at the UCLA Legends of Track & Field Invitational at 10 a.m.
