Riverside Track & Field Dominates in First Conference Meet

The Riverside City College track and field program hosted an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) meet against a pair of competitors in the form of Saddleback College and Santa Ana College on Friday afternoon at Wheelock Stadium. The men dominated the field by scoring 131 overall points for a first-place finish, while the women recorded 112 points to haul in first place.

The men recorded numerous top finishes that found them atop the podium. Freshman Keylan Dennis hauled in a pair of victories coming in the 200M and the 400M. He notched a 200M time of 21.92 and a 400M mark of 48.24.

Sophomore Alec Hall went home with a top finish in the 1500M with a mark of 3:58.86, which was approximately 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Freshman Enrique Villa placed first in the 800M with a time of 1:57.16. Villa finished second in the 1500M behind Hall with a time of 4:03.19.

Riverside swept the podium in the 5000M with sophomore Jeffery Robbins placing first with a time of 15:54.11. Freshman Austin Dai (15:55.03) and freshman Angel Campos (15:57.48) finished in second and third, respectfully. Freshman Dillon Lay placed first in the 110M Hurdles with a mark of 15:32.

Freshman Baylee Carter and freshman Elijah Steward finished consecutively in the High Jump with Carter pacing the way with a mark of 5' 11.5". Steward followed with a height of 5' 9.75".

Freshman Tyler Harper and sophomore Spencer Mills finished back-to-back in the Pole Vault. Harper recorded a 14' mark, while Mills followed with a 12' 11.75".

Riverside swept the Shot Put with sophomore Jordan Davis placing first with a mark of 44' 1.5". Freshman Alec Jones followed with a second place finish with a mark of 43' 1.5". Jones placed first in the Discus as well with a mark of 149' 7". Freshman Marcos Gonzalez earned a first-place mark in Javelin with a toss of 169' 4".

For the women, sophomore Tia Parrish placed first in the 200M with a mark of 25.72. Freshman Maryjane Smith backed her with as second-place finish with a time of 26.06.

Sophomore Sarah Hollis landed atop the podium in the 1500M with a dominating mark of 5:04.11. She finished second in the 800M with a 2:31.24 finish. She capped her day with a gold medal in the 5000M with a 18:40.20 mark – a good two minutes faster than the second-place opponent.

Riverside dominated both Hurdle events with Sha'quan Matthews placing first in the 100M Hurdles with a mark of 15.94 and freshman Alondra Palmer placing first in the 400M Hurdles with a clip of 1:12.54.

Sophomore Ca'may Stocker hauled in a first place finish in the Shot Put with a distance of 39' 10.5". She followed with a 128' 7" in the Discus Throw to earn first place.

The Tigers will continue action on Saturday, March 3rd as they will host University of California – Riverside, Cal State University –Fullerton, and Pepperdine University at home at 1 p.m.
