Women’s Tennis Cruises in Season Opener

After being one of the only teams fortunate enough to compete during the Spring II campaign, the Riverside City College women's tennis team began their 2022 campaign on Friday against Glendale College. They picked up right where they left off last season with a commanding 8-1 win.

Familiar faces mixed with a handful of newcomers got the job done as the Tigers swept doubles play. Riverside nearly swept the match by taking five out of the six singles matches.

Sophomore Torrey Mateljan and freshman Samantha Treat and got the ball rolling with an 8-1 win as the top doubles team, while freshman duo Marvonna Vaxter and Susana Iniguez earned an 8-4 win as the number two squad.

Freshman Jillian Starks and Semaj Walter handled the third spot with an 8-2 win.

The Tiger's top two singles matches traveled into three sets with Treat getting a win after losing the first set in a tiebreaker. She cruised in the final two 6-2 and 10-8.

Stark earned a 6-5, 7-5 win while freshman Andrielle Fotchi earned a 6-4, 6-4 win. Walker and Vaxet closed out the win with two-set victories.
