Women’s Tennis Continues to Roll with Second-Straight Victory

It was another dominating performance for the Riverside City College women's tennis squad as they played host to the San Diego City College Knights on Tuesday afternoon. Everything was working for the Tigers as they owned the doubles and continued the trend on to their singles play, thus defeating the Knights by the final score of 9-0.

Freshman duo Torrey Mateljan and Maxelle Bernie teamed up for the top doubles squad and were victorious for the second-straight match by defeating their opponent 8-3. Sophomore Heather Graf and freshman Yasmin Johnson followed at the second position with a 8-1 victory, backed by an 8-0 victory from the number three team comprised of freshman Hannah Stevenson and sophomore Emilia Lopez.

The singles matches were a walk in the park for the Tigers as they hauled in six easy wins. Mateljan had the most challenging match, but still won in two sets by the final scores of 6-3, 6-2. Graf followed as the number two and won 6-1, 6-0.

Johnson earned a flawless victory at the fifth position with her scores reading 6-0, 6-0, while all other earned a two-set victory.

Riverside (2-0) will continue action on Thursday, January 31 at home against the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
