Tiger Men's Poloists Split Season's First Two Matches Friday at Golden West Mini Tournament
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's water polo squad opened its 2014 campaign with a split of a pair of games at the Golden West College Mini Tournament on Friday (Sept. 5).
In the second game of the season, Riverside (1-1) earned its first victory of the season, defeating the Ventura College Pirates, 22-12. The Tigers dominated the first quarter, leading, 6-1, and never looked back. Leading RCC in scoring were freshman driver Brandt Restad (Murrieta / Vista Murrieta HS '14) and fellow freshman driver Mark Morin (Temecula / Chaparral HS '14), each with six goals.
In the first game, the Tigers fell to the Citrus College Owls, 23-8. After a 3-3 first quarter, RCC gave up 7 goals in the second period to end the first half, trailing, 3-10. Then, after trailing by six going into the fourth quarter, the Tigers gave up nine goals in the final period. In the loss, Restad and Morin led RCC in scoring with two and three goals, respectively.
In the Tigers' next action, they will participate in the California Baptist University (CBU) Mini Tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 10. RCC will face the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Colleges Stags at 5 p.m. before facing the host CBU Lancers at 7 p.m. in the modest three-team affair.
