Tigers Take Third at CCCAA Championships; Zaoui Named Co-Swimmer of the Meet

MONTEREY PARK -- Winning one individual event and finishing third in another relay, the third (and final) day of competition is in the books at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships and the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's swimming and diving team posted its highest state meet finish in its history with a third place showing.

The CCCAA Championships were hosted by East Los Angeles College (ELAC) in its natatorium in Monterey Park.

Golden West College (GWC) won the state championship with 573 points, followed by Sierra (466 points), Riverside (411), Las Positas (276) and Santa Rosa Junior College (268). Among Orange Empire Conference (OEC) members, Orange Coast was seventh (191) and Cypress was 16th (67).

RCC freshman Farouk Zaoui (Tunis, TUNISIA) -- who is pictured -- earned CCCAA Championships Co-Male Swimmer of the Meet honors. On Saturday (May 6), he won the men's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.67. Last Friday (May 5), Zaoui won the men's 400-yard individual medley (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) with a time of 4:02.2. Last Thursday (May 4), Zaoui placed third in the men's 500-yard freestyle (4:35.21).

Elsewhere on Saturday for RCC, the Tigers' 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of freshman Jacob White (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS), sophomore Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA), freshman Arnaud Magnan (Versailles, FRANCE) and sophomore Maxence Bouvier (Marseille, FRANCE) placed third (3:05.86).

Individually, Magnan finished fourth in the men's 200-yard backstroke (1:53.20) and Bouvier was fifth in the men's 100-yard freestyle (:45.88). Also in the 100-yard freestyle, Raca was 15th (:47.70) and White was 16th (:47.91).
