Tigers Currently in Second Place After Two Days at OEC Championships
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- After two days (of three scheduled) of the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's swimming and diving team currently finds itself in second place, 19 points behind host Golden West College (GWC).
Golden West has accumulated 577.0 points, while Riverside City is next with 558.0 points.
In Friday's (Apr. 21) action, RCC won six of the eight events, including the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.18) and the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:49.07).
Individual winners for RCC were sophomore Lazar Raca (Belgrade, SERBIA) in the 100-yard butterfly (:49.80), freshman Jacob White (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.00), sophomore Maxence Bouvier (FRANCE) in the 100-yard breaststroke (:54.19), and Aaron Garcia in the one-meter diving event (195.70 points).
Bouvier's mark set a RCC, OEC and CCCAA record in the 100 breaststroke. Bouvier also set a RCC record in his 200-yard freestyle portion with a lead-off swim in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a 1:39:1.
Another pair of RCC records were set by Arnaud Magnan (FRANCE) in the 100-yard backstroke (:51.55, second place) and freshman Farouk Zaoui (TUNISIA) in the 400-yard individual medley (4:02.64, second place).
In Thursday's (Apr. 20) first day of competition, the RCC men had a 17-point lead.
The Tigers are guided by fourth-year RCC head swimming and diving program coach Jason Northcott. Riverside finished fourth in last spring's California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships and hopes to improve on that finish this spring.
