Durham Wins 400 IM & RCC Wins 800-yard Freestyle Relay; Tigers are Third after Day 2 of CCCAA Championships

MONTEREY PARK -- With 14 events already completed through two days (of three) of competition at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Championships, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's swimming and diving team achieved a couple of first-place finishes and is in third place.

THe CCCAA Championships are being hosted at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park Thursday through Saturday, May 5-7.

Riverside is in third place with 299 points. The Sierra College Wolverines are in first with 377.5 points, followed by Golden West in second (306 points). Orange Coast is fourth (257) and San Diego Mesa is fifth (209).

On Friday (May 6), the Tiger men won their first relay at the state championships in RCC history with a first place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of sophomore Adrien Deloffre (Dunkerque, FRANCE) -- who is pictured, freshman Maxence Bouvier (FRANCE), sophomore Alex Durham (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS) and sophomore Garret Shimko (Riverside / Riverside Poly HS) touched the pad first with a time of 6:44.25.

Also, Durham won the 400-yard individual medley (IM) with a time 4:02.67, breaking a 36-year-old RCC record.

Additionally on Friday, RCC freshman Jakob Wood (Vista Murrieta HS) finished fourth in the three-meter diving event with a total of 201.75 points and Bouvier finished fourth in the men's 100-yard butterfly with a time of :49.33.

"Tomorrow (Saturday) will be an exciting conclusion of the season," said third-year RCC head men's swimming and diving coach Jason Northcott. Recently, Northcott was named OEC male (team) Coach of the Year at the OEC Championships

In Thursday's action, Deloffre was third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.67). For Deloffre, it was the second time (also in 2015) that he had finished third in the state in the 500 free.

Also on Thursday, Bouvier was second in the 50-yard freestyle (:20.52). Two weeks ago, Bouvier was named Orange Empire Conference (OEC) co-male swimmer of the year at the OEC Swimming and Diving Championships, which were hosted at Fullerton College.

Additionally, Durham placed third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:12.31. RCC's 200-yard freestyle relay team was second (1:27.86).

The Tigers will continue competition at the CCCAA Championships, hosted at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park through Saturday, May 7.
