MISSION VIEJO -- Setting nine club records, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's swimming and diving team posted a second-place finish at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) championships at Saddleback College last weekend (April 16-17-18).

Riverside, which finished 5-1 (second place) in OEC dual meets, finished second to the Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers, but of particular note, the RCC Tigers finished ahead of the Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates at the OEC Championships for the first time since 1999, according to RCC head men's swimming and diving coach Jason Northcott.

The final team scores were as follows: 1. Golden West, 789.5 points, 2. Riverside (661.5), 3. OCC (616.5), 4. Saddleback (354), 5. Fullerton (348), 6. Cypress (280.5), 7. Santa Ana (133).

Nine RCC records (three team relays and six individual events) were set at OEC Championship meet. To wit: the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.31, tied for first), the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:06.10, second place) and 800-yard freestyle relay (6:52.09, first place), which was .04 shy of the OEC record.

Individually, Daniel Ghomi set RCC records in the 50-meter freestyle (21.22, second place), the 100-meter freestyle (46.07, second place), and the 100-meter butterfly (49.36, first place).

Adrien Deloffre set RCC marks in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.89, second place), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.68, first place), and the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.07, first place).

To recap the team's regular season accomplishments, the Tigers won the Palomar Waterman Invitational, the Chaffey Invitational, the Riverside Invitational and finished second to GWC at the Golden West Invitational.

Several RCC swimmers and relay quartets will be top seeds at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, April 30 - May 2, hosted at East Los Angeles College.
