Tigers Win Twice, 13-4 Over American River and 18-5 Over Long Beach; Riverside is 19-1 Overall
RIVERSIDE -- Playing solidly in another pair of home games, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's water polo squad defeated American River College (ARC) Beavers, 13-4, and the Long Beach Beach City College (LBCC) Vikings, 18-5, in a pair of RCC Mini Tournament games Friday (Oct. 14) at the Riverside Aquatic Center on the RCC campus..
Against Long Beach City, Riverside City (19-1 overall) led, 3-0, at the end of the first quarter, 9-4 at halftime and 14-4 heading into the fourth quarter.
RCC sophomore attacker Mary Myers (Riverside / Riverside Poly HS '15).scored a team-high four goals and added five assists. A trio of RCC sophomore attackers Sarina Briseno (Riverside / Riverside Poly HS '15) -- who is pictured, Citlali Salazar (Eastvale / Eleanor Roosevelt HS '15) and Kelly Perez (Riverside / John W. North HS '15) each had four steals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ariana Olmos (Redlands / Redlands East Valley HS '15) had eight saves and four steals for RCC and frosh goalie Breana Ortiz (Fontana / Etiwanda HS) had three saves and one assist.
Against ARC, Riverside led, 3-2, at the end of the first quarter, 5-3 at halftime and 8-4 heading into the fourth quarter.
Briseno and sophomore two-meter offense player Emily Martin (Yucaipa / Yucaipa HS '15) each had three goals for RCC. Olmos had eight saves and two assists.
In between RCC's victories, LBCC defeated ARC (5-13 overall).
Riverside returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19, when it hosts the Saddleback College Gauchos in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game at 3 p.m. RCC is 4-0 OEC play.
