Gardner Tallies 31 Assists in Four Set Loss to Golden West
The Riverside City College volleyball team hit the road for an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) matchup against the Golden West College Rustlers on Wednesday night in hopes of snapping a four-game skid. The Tigers were unable to break their losing streak after falling to the Rustlers in four sets with set scores reading 13-25, 25-22, 17-25, and 23-25.
The Tigers had many contributors during the contest. Leading the was a powerful force in the middle in the form of freshman middle blocker Lauren Dunmore (Northridge, CA). She put together a well-rounded contest highlighted by six total blocks – four of them acting as solo stuffs. She also chipped in six kills which was tied for second on the team.
Freshman tandem Darricka Hewitt (Riverside, CA) and Madison Bogh (Highland, CA) each recorded seven kills which tied for a team-high. Bogh was a monster inside by recording five block assists, while Hewitt recorded one.
Freshman outside hitter Marcella Rodriguez (Belize City, Belize) led the defensive initiatives with 17 digs, while freshman libero Natalie Escher (Redlands, CA) backed her with 13 digs. Freshman setter Taylor Gardner (Colton, CA) acted as the main gear of the offense once again by dishing out 31 assist which ties her career-high clip.
The Tigers (8-13, 3-9 OEC) return home after a four-game road trip on Friday, November 3rd to play host to the Cypress College Chargers (14-5, 9-3 OEC) at 6 p.m.
