Tigers Drop Deciding Set, Split with IVC

Tigers Drop Deciding Set, Split with IVC

The Riverside City College women's tennis team suffered a tough loss on Thursday afternoon after completing a two-set Orange Empire Conference (OEC) series with the Irvine Valley College Lasers.

For the Tigers, the battle was highlighted by a back and forth affair on the first court during number one doubles.

Sophomore Torrey Mateljan and freshman Keeley Arendt looked to reign supreme for the second time against IVC's top duo. They got off to a hot start by holding a quick advantage, but the Lasers came charging back to take the lead after the second changeover.

While facing a deficit nearing the completion of the match, Mateljan and Arendt dug deep to tie the match and eventually take the lead after a questionable call on the line in the Laser's favor. Nevertheless, the duo earned a 9-7 win.

Freshman Samantha Treat was the lone singles player to earn a Riverside win by taking down her opponent, 6-1, 6-1, at number two singles. Freshman Daisie Flores fell in the deciding match, but played a strong three set match at the fourth singles position. The scores read 2-6, 6-4, 4-6.
