Clark’s Massive Double-Double Leads Riverside Past OEC Foe

The Riverside City College women's basketball team hosted the final day of the Seventh Annual "Earning Our Stripes" Tournament and faced off against the Santa Ana College Dons in the consolation championship game. Riverside went up big in the first quarter, but the Dons made in interesting late in the game and came within four points in the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, a 13-5 run late in the fourth quarter handed the Tigers a victory.

Riverside let a 19-point advantage slip away late in the game, but they never surrendered the lead. They put together clutch possessions down the stretched keeping the Dons at bay. The Tigers shot significantly better from the floor as seen in a 48.4 percent clip. They shot 30 percent from long range and out rebounded the Dons 42-28.

Riverside killed the Dons in the paint as they scored 34 points and converted 18 points on second-chance opportunities. Both teams shot terribly from the charity stripe, but the Tigers worker their way to the line 17 times and sunk nine free throws.

Freshman forward Mya Clark was the biggest reason why the Tigers dominated down low. She scored all of her points in the paint as seen in a 24 point, 23 rebound effort. Her double-double is the biggest double-double in recent RCC history.

Clark went 11-for-19 from the floor and 16 of her rebounds came on the defensive end. She made it to the line seven times, but only drain a mere two to keep her from surpassing the 30-point mark. Freshman Neiya Hamilton had her strongest game of the season by dropping 18 points and hauling in six rebounds. She also dished out a pair of assists.

Freshman Shannon Jordan chipped in 10 points to act as the third Tiger to land in double digits, while sophomore Alyssa Serna knocked down three buckets and facilities five other buckets.

Riverside (4-2) will continue action on the road next weekend at the College of the Sequoias Crossover.
