New Runners Emerge at SD Mesa Invitational

After a week hiatus from competition, the Riverside City College men's cross country squad participated in the San Diego Mesa invitational at Liberty Station in San Diego, CA. The field of competitors featured California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) tams from the North and South. The Tigers slightly missed out on a podium finish, but finished as the top Orange Empire Conference (OEC) en route to a fourth place result.

"The guys did well today," said Head Coach Jim McCarron. "This is the first time we have run with all of our top guys."

Abel Ramos paced the pack by finishing in the top-five. He is the only runner to place in the top five all season as he crossed the finish line with a time reading 20:51.62. Mario Tavares continued to act as one of the backbone runners with a 12th place finish. He earned a clip of 21:03.46.

Freshman Raen Reyes rounded out the top-15 with a 21:11.83 mark. Gavyn Condit, who has consistently landed in the top-five for the Tigers, placed 21st overall with a time reading 21:25.40.

Isaac Umana broke into the Tigre's top five for the first time this season by placing 27th overall. He earned a finishing time of 21:31.88.

"The team is coming along quite well and should be at full strength by the end of the month towards championship time," said McCarron. "We are definitely one of the top six teams in the state at this point and we are excited about making a push to a great conference and stat finals."
