Tigers Top Two-Year Challengers, Place 6th Overall at Biola Invitational
It was another strong showing for the Riverside City College men's cross country team as they faced off against top NCAA competition at the Biola Invitational. The Tigers were the highest finishing community college competitor by placing sixth overall.
RCC edged out Orange Coast (7) and Saddleback (11) to round out the top-12. They were a mere five seconds from placing in the top five.
"We had a strong performance from our fifth runner, Jorge Castro," said Head Coach Jim McCarron. "He really stepped up."
In his first meet of the season, Castro placed 61st overall with a time of 27:21.1. He utilized an average mile time of 5:28.3.
Sophomore Mario Tavares paced the Tigers for the second-straight meet. He acted as the top community college finisher by earning a time of 26:09.9 and placed 28th overall. Freshman Raen Reyes landed just outside the top-35 with a 37th place finish. He crossed the finish line with a 26:22.4 mark.
Freshman Gavyn Condit backed his impressive season opener with a 39th place finish at a time of 26:27.3. Sophomore Vincent Capacete capped the Tiger's efforts with a 57th place finish at a mark of 27:05.9.
Riverside will continue to face off against top NCAA competition next Saturday, September 18 at the UC Riverside Invitational. First gun is set for 7:30 a.m.
