Men’s Track & Field Takes Early SoCal Regional Lead

The Riverside City College men's track and field team kicked off 3C2A Southern Regional Championship action last weekend at the prelims hosted by San Diego Mesa College. Riverside got out to an early lead with a handful of top marks to set them ahead of the competition.

Riverside holds a 10 point lead entering into the SoCal finals this upcoming weekend with 46 total points. Mt. San Antonio is in second place with 36 points, while San Diego Mesa is narrowly in third place with 35 points.

Sophomore Donal Aluesi came out strong in the opening weekend by finishing first in the Hammer (173' 10") and the Shot Put (53' 3"). Freshman Edward Ta'amilo placed with in the Hammer (150' 8"), while freshman Christian Burroughs followed in seventh place in the Hammer (148' 6").

Burroughs and Ta'amilo finished consecutively in the Shot Put as well. Burroughs place fourth overall (51' ¼"), while Ta'amilo landed in fifth place (50' 6 ¼"). Sophomore Alan Rennie earned the sixth-place slot in the Shot Put (48' 3 ½").

Sophomore Gavyn Condit added a handful of points into the Tiger's column as he placed seventh overall in the 10,000 M (31:53.55).

The preliminary rounds saw multiple qualifiers for the Tigers. Sophomore Darius Hill paced the field in the Long Jump (7.56 m), while coming in second in the High Jump (1.89 m).

Sophomore Joshua Hornsby carts the fastest time in the 110 M Hurdles (14.19) to act as the favorite for the gold.

Sophomore Kyle Reden placed second in the 800 M (1:54.72) by a mere 37 milliseconds. Sophomore Luke Gleason placed fourth overall (1:54.63).

Freshman Ernesto Ruiz placed fifth overall in the 3,000 M Steeplechase (9:41.80). Riverside's 1600 M Relay (3:17.59) squad placed third overall to round out the top finishes.
