Aburto & Chavez Named S.A.A.C. September Athletes of the Month

In order to be regonized as the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Athlete of the Month, a student-athlete must represent Riverside City College athletics in an exemplarily fashion. They must own a positive attitude on and off the playing surface while excelling in the classroom and displaying excellent behavior towards fellow student-athletes, coaches, teachers, and athletic administration.

Ricardo Chavez
Football · Kicker · Sophomore

Chavez has been electric in the kicking game behind the Riverside City College Tigers. In just four games, the sophomore has booted seven field goals highlighted by a school-record 56 yarder. He has converted seven field goals so far this season. Three 50+ yards (54, 54, 56), three 40+ yards (40, 48, 49) and a 23-yard chip shot.

Additionally, he has reared back for 18 punts totaling 683 yards with 10 landing inside the 20-yard line. He is responsible for a team high 26 points and was named the SCFA Special Teams Player of the Week for week three.

Aburto has been electric for the Tigers and a force on the outside. In September play, Aburto amassed 103 kills, 3.12 kills-per-set and a .213 hitting percentage. She has been just as effective on the defensive end with 85 digs, 2.58 digs-per-set and eight total blocks.

The freshman swinger has recorded at least six kills in each match throughout the month of September including six straight multi-kill games. She recorded a season-high 16 kills in a win over Cerro Coso backed by a 15-kill effort in the Tiger's conference opening win against Santa Ana.
