After a 10-game winning streak was snapped in early October, the Riverside City College women's water polo team looked to start a new streak with an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showdown against the Cypress College Chargers. The Tigers leaped out to a four-score advantage in the first period and never looked back leading to a 16-7 victory.
Riverside score five goals each in the first and fourth periods. A quite second period lead to four more goals in the third frame to leading to the triumph.
In an evenly dispersed offensive attack, 11 different players scored one goal with five of those teams lading in double digit scoring. Freshman Nicole Tormey kicked off the scoring spree and paced the Tigers with a pair of goals – each coming in the first period. She ended the game with a career-high 10 steals.
Freshman duo Maria Roldan and Danielle Cary dished out three assists each, while Roldan added a pair of scores. Freshman Katie Salcedo, sophomore Hannah Peercy and freshman Katelynn Bloom were the trio to round out double-digit scorers. Bloom and Peercy pocketed a pair of steals as well.
Sophomore Madison Button picked up her 16th win with no challenges in the cage. She recorded four saves in the win.
Riverside (16-3, 3-0 OEC) will continue action at home on Friday, October 18 against American River at 8 a.m. and Long Beach at 2:10 p.m.
