The Tigers have fell victim to a rough October after dropping six of their last eight conference games. Despite the rugged rough, the Tigers have moved on into November play in hopes to make a case for an at-large bid into the playoffs. They took a step in the right direction tonight as Riverside defeated Saddleback, 3-1, for a season and series sweep.
After Riverside dropped the opening set by a two-point margin, the Tigers rebounded strongly and fought back to win the ensuing three sets. A plethora of weapons contributed to the victory highlighted by the efforts of sophomore leader Vashti Elias-Romero.
Elias-Romero, who returned from a minor injury last Wednesday, put together one of her stronger performances of the season as seen in 21 kills and 24 digs leading to a .455 hitting percentage. She did damage at the net as well after joining in on two block assists.
Freshman Keeley Hober was a brick wall at the net by recording five block assists and a solo stuff. Freshman Miranda Gates acted as a serving specialist and dropped in four aces. Sophomore Jasmine Urban followed with four aces of her own.
The Tigers (11-11, 5-7 OEC) will hit the road for a crucial three-game trip starting with a match against top-ranked Irvine Valley on Wednesday, November 6 at 6 p.m.
